I read where Acts 1:8 is one of the most popular verses in the Bible:

Acts 1:1-9 (King James Version)

1The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

1) I need some clarification regarding the Holy Spirit.

2Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen.

In verses 2, after Jesus has been taken up to Heaven, he speaks to man through the Holy Spirit.  This Holy Spirit already existed in man, given by God to man when he created Adam?  God spoke to man through the Holy Spirit before Jesus came to earth.  Then while on earth Jesus could talk directly to his apostles.  Once Jesus goes back to heaven, he/God speaks to man once again through the Holy Spirit?  Even while Jesus was on earth, God was speaking to men, who did not personally meet Jesus, through the Holy Spirit.

Or was it a cast that because mankind was in sin, it wasn’t until Jesus removed(?) that sin, that man could hear God/Jesus through the Holy Spirit once again, after they had been baptized.

I read in the New World Encyclopedia:

“This spirit imbues them with spiritual power or wisdom, making them capable of heroic speech and action (Gen. 41:38; Ex. 31:3; Num. 24:2; Judges 3:10; II Sam. 23:2). The spirit of God rests upon man (Isa. 6:2); it surrounds him like a garment (Judges 6:34); it falls upon him and holds him like a hand (Ezek. 6:5, 37:1). It may also be taken away from the chosen one and transferred to some one else (Num. 6:17). It may enter into man and speak with his voice (II Sam. 23:2; Ezek. ii. 2). The prophet sees and hears by means of the spirit (Num. I Sam. 10:6; II Sam. 23:2, etc). The prophet Joel predicted (2: 28-29) that in the Day of the Lord “I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit.”

From Matthew Henry’s Commentary:

“Paul, at Ephesus, found some religious persons, who looked to Jesus as the Messiah. They had not been led to expect the miraculous powers of the Holy Ghost, nor were they informed that the gospel was especially the ministration of the Spirit. But they spake as ready to welcome the notice of it. Paul shows them that John never design that those he baptized should rest there, but told them that they should believe on Him who should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. They thankfully accepted the discovery, and were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. The Holy Ghost came upon them in a surprising, overpowering manner; they spake with tongues, and prophesied, as the apostles and the first Gentile coverts did. Though we do not now expect miraculous powers, yet all who profess to be disciples of Christ, should be called on to examine whether they have received the seal of the Holy Ghost, in his sanctifying influences, to the sincerity of their faith. Many seem not to have heard that there is a Holy Ghost, and many deem all that is spoken concerning his graces and comforts, to be delusion. Of such it may properly be inquired, “Unto what, then, were ye baptized?” for they evidently know not the meaning of that outward sign on which they place great dependence.

2) 6When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Man can’t know God’s plan, but can only live by his guidance until the day God choses to reveal it to them (in Heaven ?).

3) 7And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Watching God being taken up to Heaven must have been a overwhleming moment for his disciples.  The final proof of Jesus’s word.  People who live by God’s guidance will know this experince when they join God in Heaven.

(Update Monday-9/7.  I just got back from spending Labor Day weekend at my cousin’s.  I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as much as I did.  I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to contribute to this dialogue.   I don’t have an opinion as to who is correct or incorrect in their interpretation of Bible.  Any of my comments are to seek understanding, and clarification of your opinion’s on the subject of the mankind’s soul/spirit and the Holy Spirit.)
