The Christian Science Monitor has a story about a weekly Bluegrass jam session at the Grisly Pear in New York City of all places. The sessions are run by “Sheriff Uncle Bob”, the grandfather of New York’s bluegrass jam scene and the “sheriff of good times”.
I have never listen to much bluegrass music but with it’s toe tappin rythem this music a great why to get the good times rollin. The Wikipedia entry on Bluegrass music – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluegrass_music .
Bill Monroe started it all with the “Blue Grass Boys”, Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt, Chubby Wise and Hwoard Watts, Roanoke –

You made papa’s day! LOL I love Bluegrass – I don’t know if you know who Bill & Gloria Gaither are but they were in your second video – the video was probably taken at one of their “Gaither Gatherings/homecomings” – they are the measuring stick for gospel music. Thanks again – Yeee Haaaaw!

Papa, I am happy you enjoyed the music. I like the sound of both the banjo and fiddle, great country dancing music. Roy Clark is the best banjo player I know and Natalie MacMaster is my current favorite fiddler.
Do you have any favorite Bluegrass or country bands?
Yeee Haaaww back at you.

one of my “old” fiddle players I liked was Doug Kershaw – “Louisiana Man” I also like the group “Barrage”. I am not sure if Barrage is still touring or not. I think I will check Youtube.

Barrage is a great group of young fiddlers. I especially liked “Moutain Spring” and “Old Joe Clark”. It is good to see young people keep in old traditon alive.

Bill Monroe is just amazing, as is Ricky Scaggs. I could listen to bluegrass all day (much to Darla’s dismay)
Tony Rice, the Seldom Scene, Garcia & Grisman are also some of my Fave’s

Hi praise365. Bluegrass and Jazz are the two musical genre’s orginating from the US. Bill Monroe with Bluegrass and Louis Armstrong with Jazz are two Amreican musical genius.

Hey,
I am an avid Bluegrass fan and I must say that the “JD Crowe and the New South” in the 70s had to be one of my favorites. JD Crowe, Ricky Skaggs, Bobby Sloan, Tony Rice, Jerry Douglas – it just doesn’t get any better than that.
I am a big Tony Rice fan also. He is the man on the guitar!
