Surfing through You Tube videos I found a couple of old songs I will share with you.  I love the lyrics of “Chelsea Morning”, by Joni Mitchell, and “Helpless”, by Neil Young.  The third video, “You’ve Got a Friend”, sung by James Taylor and written by Carol King, reminds me of my childhood best friend Charlie, whose last name I sadly can’t remember.  I guess I am losing some brain cells. 

 

Charlie had a tough home life, his father beat him on a regular basis, and he spent a lot of time at my house.  We would go playing in the woods near a small farm, now all condos, with my dog Buttons at our side.  There was a small river there and we would skip stones along the water and sometimes catch a trout, or pickerel, big enough to eat.  Charlie was an Air Force pilot and he was MIA, presumed killed, when his plane was shot down over Viet Nam.

 

I would be interested in hearing about anyone else’s childhood best friend.
